White border variants

What is the white border, and what if I upload photos with an existing white border?

When you upload photos to Darkroom, a variant with an automatic 1.5-inch white border is generated by default. This is a popular print choice that many of your customers will look for.

Key Details & Sizing

  • The border averages 1.5 inches, but the exact width can vary slightly depending on your image’s aspect ratio.
  • We dynamically adjust the border to preserve your image’s native aspect ratio and ensure it prints accurately without unexpected cropping.

How to Preview White Borders

You can check how the generated white border looks on your specific photos:

  1. Go to any photo’s Product Details page inside your gallery.
  2. Select the White Border in Professional paper or Fine Art paper option to view an accurate live preview.

💡 Tip: You can also view example prints in the Samples Gallery.

Important Note for Custom Borders

If your uploaded image already includes a custom white border baked into the file:

  • Recommendation: Manually remove or disable the automatic white border variant from that product.
  • Why? Leaving it enabled will apply a double border to your photo, which usually isn’t desired.
